Total Design & Construction Support Services for Replacement of Bruckner Expressway over Westchester Creek, Unionport Bridge
The Unionport Bridge is a moveable bridge with a double-leaf trunnion bascule supporting Bruckner Boulevard over Westchester Creek in the Bronx, New York. The average daily traffic on the bridge is approximately 50,000 vehicles per day. The main structural members of the bascule span framing were found to be severely deteriorated in a NYCDOT Biennial Inspection, resulting in the decision to perform a total replacement of the bridge. The general scope of work includes construction of a new bascule structure, realignment of the approaches with new overhead connector ramps, mechanical and electrical systems, operator house, and fender system.

EnTech’s scope of work includes preparation of preliminary construction staging plans, preparation of preliminary construction staging plans, work zone traffic control (WZTC) plans, civil engineering design tasks, AutoCAD/BIM services, environmental assessments, and construction support services. EnTech also developed various alternatives for maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT) schemes that fit project conditions. This involves design of the temporary access ramps on new alignment, temporary traffic signals striping and pavement markings, and on-site pedestrian detours. EnTech completed a Phase I, Hazardous Materials Screening Investigation for the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) in connection with the Unionport Bridge Project. EnTech also completed Phase II and asbestos, lead and universal waste surveys for Unionport Bridge over Westchester Creek.
