To improve the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP)’s ability to monitor safety and conditions, the agency’s Bureau of Wastewater Treatment undertook a project to expand instrumentation and Automated Data Acquisition System (ADAS) capabilities at four reservoirs in New York City’s water supply network. EnTech provided geotechnical services for the monitoring of the embankment dams at Bog Brook Reservoir and Croton Falls Diverting Reservoir, both in the town of Southeast; Titicus Reservoir, in North Salem; and Jerome Park Reservoir, in the Bronx.
At each site, EnTech performed a subsurface exploration program, including soil borings and groundwater monitoring wells. Subsequently, the firm implemented a geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring program, including piezometer installation in groundwater monitoring wells, the setup of automated data collection and transmission equipment, and safety bollard installation. EnTech integrated the new monitoring systems into existing NYCDEP systems.
