The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) owns and operates a 330-mgd wastewater treatment plant, serving approximately 1.5 million people across five counties. The facility operates an active sludge plant, which treats sludge using multiple types of equipment, including thickening centrifuges. To accommodate current volumes, PVSC undertook the addition of a fifth thickening centrifuge and other infrastructure upgrades.
EnTech provided laser scanning and BIM services for the interior and exterior of the plant’s sludge thickener and heat treatment facilities. During the planning phase of the project, EnTech’s BIM team was responsible for performing station-based laser scanning to acquire the existing conditions of the facilities with high accuracy and convert them to 3D Revit models for use during the project’s design.
The team overcame line-of-sight limitations to ensure comprehensive coverage by strategically positioning scan points. Using precise point clouds generated from on-site laser scanning operations, supplemented with as-built drawings, EnTech developed models for architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) disciplines.
EnTech operated data compression, cloud storage, and precise data organization for the project. The firm meticulously developed the budget and delivery schedules, working collaboratively with the client to prioritize specific project areas and adjust the LOD modeling as the design evolved.
