Community Celebrates Completion of Repair and Resiliency Project on Shore Road in Queens

The project provided critical upgrades at a beautiful waterfront site.

The completion of the Shore Road Emergency Stabilization project was recently celebrated with a ribbon cutting at the improved shorefront site in the Douglaston area of Queens. EnTech provided REI services for the NYCDDC project, which was delivered $700,000 under budget.

In 2018, a nor’easter caused the partial collapse of portions of the street. Work to stabilize the roadway began in June 2021 and included the installation of steel sheets and 40-feet-deep soldier piles to support the roadway. Approximately 700 cubic yards of gabion baskets were installed at various elevations to support the embankment and roadway. More than 900 square feet of roadway along the embankment was also restored.

The project included approximately 700 cubic yards of gabion baskets, which were both a structural and aesthetic upgrade for the site.

Among the public officials in attendance were NYCDDC Commissioner Thomas Foley, NYCDOT Queens Borough Commissioner Nicole Garcia, State Senator John C. Liu, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., Assembly Member Edward C. Braunstein, and Council Member Vickie Paladino.
