EnTech recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of QED991, a major water main and sewer upgrade project for the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC), in northeastern Queens. EnTech, in joint venture, led REI services for this $79 million project, which installed more than 9 miles of trunk main, distribution water main, and combined sewer.

The project represents a significant extension of the trunk main network in Bayside and Flushing, and provides a major upgrade to the area’s drinking water, sewer, and fire protection capacity. New 72” and 48” trunk mains connect two ends of the existing trunk main network, adding redundancy and making the network less vulnerable to shutdowns. The replacement of storm sewers and catch basins increases the system’s drainage capacity, helping to alleviate flooding. Work included micro tunneling under the Clearview Expressway, an 8-lane at-grade highway. 18,500 linear feet of roads—including pavement, curbs, and sidewalks—were reconstructed.

EnTech staff included senior inspectors, construction inspectors, office engineers, draftsmen, and a community liaison. The team coordinated construction and monitored contractor work for safety and quality. EnTech staff worked closely with the NYCDDC and partner agencies, managed community-related issues caused by the project’s close proximity to residences and businesses, and paid careful attention to public safety throughout.
