The Henry Hudson Bridge is a critical—and beautiful—piece of New York City’s roadway infrastructure. Built in the 1930s, the steel arch bridge connects Upper Manhattan with the Bronx over Spuyten Duyvil Creek. EnTech has a strong record of work at the bridge, having provided construction management and related services for multiple projects over the past decade, totaling over $180 million. These include an award-winning, $90 million project to remove tollbooths and reconfigure toll plazas and approaches following the introduction of cashless tolling.
EnTech’s work at the Henry Hudson Bridge isn’t done. The firm is currently providing construction administration and inspection (CA/CI) services for several projects across the bridge complex, working as a subconsultant across multiple contracts. Among these is project HH-36, which centers on the upgrade of one of the two electrical substations serving the bridge. The project will give the bridge a fully redundant power supply for the first time, increasing its resilience to extreme weather, accidents, or problems in the surrounding power network. The multifaceted project is being constructed through a design-build delivery. Meanwhile, other projects involve the buildout of a maintenance garage and construction of new stairs and catwalks on the bridge’s south side.
Across these various projects at the Henry Hudson, EnTech is representing the interests of the MTA and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA). The firm’s Resident Engineer coordinates construction activities and monitors work for quality, safety, and adherence to approved drawings. For the design-build projects, EnTech participates in the review of designs for constructability and compliance with project intent and client needs.
The need to maintain a bridge never ends, and EnTech is proud of its growing tradition of service at the Henry Hudson Bridge. We look forward to further maintaining, upgrading, and fortifying this vital infrastructure in other projects to come.
