Fifteen steel roadway bridges in the Hudson Valley region of New York State required cleaning and painting of their deteriorating surfaces, to protect against corroding effects of the environment, acid rain, and deicing agents, and to restore the bridges’ overall aesthetics. EnTech is the lead construction inspection (CI) consultant for this effort, which includes the abatement of asbestos-containing material and lead-based paint.
EnTech’s CI team is responsible for coordinating construction and inspecting the contractor’s work for quality, safety, and conformance to contract requirements and NYSDOT specifications. The CI team also performs field testing of materials, takes field measurements, and prepares as-built record plans.
The most visible task under this contract is the repainting of the heavily trafficked Croton Reservoir Bridge, also known as the AMVETS Memorial Bridge. This 750-foot-long suspended arch bridge carries the northbound Taconic State Parkway over the New Croton Reservoir, at an elevation of 155 feet above water level.
