Many of New York City’s 241,000 pedestrian ramps are not in full compliance with current accessibility regulations. To achieve ADA compliance, the NYCDDC is reconstructing complex pedestrian ramps at approximately 78 street corners in Manhattan and the Bronx. “Complex” ramps are found at locations including historic districts, high-traffic areas, and corners where a ramp cannot be constructed using standard drawings because of an underground structure or other impediment.
EnTech is leading resident engineering inspection (REI) services for the project, with the specific work at each location varying based on the specific conditions of the street corner. The team is coordinating construction activities; overseeing public outreach efforts; and monitoring and inspecting contractor work on-site for conformance to contract documents, specifications, and applicable environmental and safety regulations. To minimize service disruptions and maintain safety, EnTech coordinates with representatives from the FDNY, NYCDOT, MTA, and utility companies.
