The redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International Airport aims to transform JFK into a world-class airport that can accommodate a projected 100 million annual passengers by 2050. It includes new and expanded terminals, extensive improvements to landside roadway networks, improvements to cargo facilities, and numerous other upgrades.
EnTech supplied on-call owner’s traffic engineering and analysis services to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) in support of this $13 billion megaprogram. Tasks included reviewing traffic designs and analyses for the New Terminal One, Terminal 6, and the Central Terminal Area (CTA) roadways, utilities, and Ground Transportation Center (GTC) package for quality and adherence to PANYNJ standards. Detailed review packages included site plans, airport roadway improvement designs, MPT designs, construction staging and plans, signage design, traffic signal design, traffic simulation models, EIS studies, and traffic impact analyses (TIA). Among the major tasks the team undertook was a VISSIM simulation of the roadway network during construction for the full central terminal area. The team also prepared an off-airport environmental assessment (EA) study to analyze traffic on surrounding roadways during planned construction.
