The Brooklyn Bridge is both a world-famous landmark and a critical piece of New York City’s day-to-day and emergency service infrastructure that requires regular upkeep. Spanning the East River, the neo-Gothic suspension bridge’s diagonal cable stays support six vehicle lanes and a shared pedestrian and bicycle path.
EnTech provided REI services for a New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) project to rehabilitate the bridge and extend its useful life. The rehabilitation effort focused on the approach roadways and ramp structures, including cleaning and repointing the land approaches’ masonry arches. Further work included orthotropic road deck installation, bridge coatings, roadway joint replacement, and drainage improvements. EnTech’s construction inspectors monitored contractor work, conducted approved materials inspections, and documented site conditions. The team implemented QA/QC processes, prepared and updated contract and shop drawings, and maintained detailed records of materials tests and contractor work performed.
