The Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge (Bridge S-32), a movable bridge connecting a barrier peninsula to the mainland, is an important local transportation link and a critical coastal evacuation route for the northern Jersey Shore area. Built in 1950, the existing double-leaf bascule bridge is structurally and functionally obsolete, leading the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and Monmouth County to undertake its full replacement with a wider double-leaf bascule bridge on an alignment immediately to the south of the existing bridge.
EnTech has provided environmental engineering services throughout the project’s design and construction phases. The new bridge is in a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Site Remediation Program (SRP) cleanup site that requires soil and groundwater remediation due to contamination from a previously existing gas station and its underground storage tanks, as well as Superstorm Sandy flooding.
EnTech’s environmental team performed a Phase I ESA, a Phase II ESA, and a hazardous materials investigation. The firm prepared a site remediation plan addressing petroleum-impacted soil and groundwater. EnTech’s team has monitored remediation activities for compliance with approved plans, permits, and NJDEP regulations.
