Serving two crucial functions, the Tide Gate Bridge, in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, carries Meridian Road over Flushing Creek; and sits atop a floodwater control structure that regulates the creek’s tidal flow. Built in 1938, the bridge exhibited age-related deterioration and damage from Hurricane Sandy, prompting the New York City Department of Design & Construction (NYCDDC) to replace the bridge above its pile supports.
EnTech is serving as the prime REI and VDC consultant for this project, which includes replacing the degraded mechanical flood control structures with stainless-steel tide and sluice gates. The project, co-managed by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYCDPR), is also widening the superstructure and improving accessibility by extending sidewalks with ADA-compliant ramps.
EnTech’s REI team is managing the technical and administrative aspects of construction and monitoring contractor activities for compliance with contract documents. Maintaining bridge operations and usability of the surrounding park are key project goals.
EnTech’s VDC team conducted laser scanning of the existing bridge and developed 3D existing conditions and design BIM models. EnTech integrated the existing conditions and new design BIMs into a 4D construction model, incorporating the project schedule.
