EnTech REI Project Wins 2024 ACEC New York Platinum Award

New York, NY – EnTech has been honored with the prestigious 2024 ACEC New York Platinum Award in the Special Projects category for its work on New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) project QED991: Water Main and Sewer Upgrades in the 33rd Avenue Area.

EnTech, in joint venture, led the resident engineering inspection (REI) team responsible for coordinating and overseeing construction of the $79.7 million project, which installed more than 9 miles of trunk main, distribution water main, and combined sewer in northeastern Queens. EnTech worked closely with the NYCDDC and partner agencies to successfully complete the project on time and on budget. The team managed community-related issues caused by the project’s proximity to residences and businesses, paying careful attention to public safety throughout.

The project represents a significant extension of the trunk main network in the Bayside and Flushing neighborhoods of Queens, and provides a major upgrade to the area’s drinking water, sewer, and fire protection capacity. New 72” and 48” trunk mains connect two ends of the existing trunk main network, adding redundancy and making the network less vulnerable to shutdowns. The replacement of storm sewers and catch basins increases the system’s drainage capacity, helping to alleviate flooding. Work included micro tunneling under the Clearview Expressway, an 8-lane at-grade highway. 18,500 linear feet (3.5 miles) of roads—including pavement, curbs, and sidewalks—were reconstructed.

EnTech is grateful that this important project is being honored by ACEC New York, as it embodies many of the firm’s core values. Much of EnTech’s work takes place embedded in communities, and we could not be happier than to be recognized for a project happening literally in the trenches of New York City neighborhoods. The award serves as acknowledgement of the expertise our team brings to all our projects, and it affirms our company’s dedication to the design and construction of forward-thinking, sustainable, and community-minded solutions to the complex challenges inherent in urban construction.

The selection by distinguished judges including Angelena Edwards, David Gottried, Carlo Scissura, Catherine Sheridan, and Stephanie Winkelhake recognized the high-quality engineering solutions provided by EnTech and its JV partner. The award will be presented at the upcoming 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards ceremony in New York.
