Baruch College Pedestrian Plaza REI

Baruch College’s campus, spread across several blocks of Midtown Manhattan, lacked abundant public space for students and faculty to congregate. In 2013, East 25th Street between Lexington and Third avenues was converted to a temporary pedestrian plaza. This successful initiative prompted the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) to construct the permanent 27,000-sf Clivner-Field Plaza, including green space and walkways for the college and its surrounding community.

EnTech led resident engineering inspection (REI) services for this $6.5 million project, including construction inspection, supervision, management, coordination, and administration across project phases. The firm oversaw work necessary for conversion from street to plaza, including constructing the plaza’s surface; replacing 750 lf of water main; and repairing and replacing traffic and streetlight electrical systems. Work further included roadway reconstruction at adjacent intersections, and strengthening beams in the college vault structure.

EnTech monitored construction on-site for adherence to contract documents, specifications, and health and safety requirements. The firm reviewed licenses, permits, materials, change orders, and payment packages; maintained RFI and submittal logs; and prepared schedules, field orders, progress reports, and as-built drawings. Clivner-Field Plaza opened in October 2021.
