To provide a major upgrade to northeastern Queens’s drinking water, sewer, and fire protection capacities, the New York City Department of Design & Construction (NYCDDC) undertook a significant extension of the trunk main network in Bayside and Flushing. Totaling more than 9 miles, the new trunk mains connect two ends of the existing network, adding redundancy and minimizing vulnerability to shutdowns.
EnTech, in joint venture, led REI services. The team coordinated construction and monitored contractor work for safety, quality, and adherence to contract documents. The team oversaw the installation of 15,150 lf of new trunk water main and monitored the replacement of 25,650 lf of distribution water main and 8,250 lf of combined sewer. 18,500 lf of roadway and sidewalks were reconstructed as part of the project.
EnTech staff closely coordinated with the NYCDDC and partner agencies, and ensured compliance with NYCDDC processes and standards. EnTech managed community-related issues caused by the project’s proximity to residences and businesses, and paid careful attention to public safety and maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT). The team implemented scope change tracking to deliver the work on time and within budget.
The success of the project was recognized with a 2024 ACEC New York Platinum Award, in the Special Projects category.
