42nd Street Shuttle Reconstruction and Accessibility Upgrades

New York City Transit (NYCT)’s 42nd Street Shuttle serves more than 100,000 customers daily, connecting two of the most heavily trafficked transit stations in the United States: the Times Square and Grand Central subway stations. EnTech provided quality management services for a major reconstruction of the shuttle corridor to increase accessibility and bring both stations into ADA compliance.

The project converted the shuttle from a three-track to a two-track operation with extended platforms. This allows the shuttle to run six-car trains instead of four-car trains, expanding capacity by approximately 20 percent. Work also included new electrical, communication, signal, and safety systems.

EnTech led the quality management program as part of the contractor team. The firm prepared quality management plans and work plans, held trainings with production crews, and inspected work activities according to quality work plan requirements. EnTech coordinated third-party inspections and testing programs and performed quality audits of subcontractor work.
