The Washington Metro system serves more than 600,000 riders daily across 91 stations in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is undertaking a multiphase design-build program to rehabilitate deteriorated concrete platforms and other components across their 45 outdoor rail stations.
EnTech provided civil, structural, and geotechnical design, as well as construction support services, as part of the design-build team for Phase 3 of this program, encompassing work at six stations: Arlington Cemetery and Addison Road on the Blue Line, and West Hyattsville, Prince George’s Plaza, College Park, and Greenbelt on the Green Line.
At the College Park station, EnTech’s civil services centered on the replacement of sound barriers, totaling approximately 1 mile. The team performed field surveys to document existing conditions, performed structural calculation for steel post replacement, and developed designs and details for replacement sound barrier panels.
EnTech’s geotechnical team developed and conducted a geotechnical subsurface investigation program and engineering design to support the construction of station platforms, ramps, and staircases. The team developed a geotechnical report providing design parameters and general construction recommendations, and provided field engineering support during construction.
