The Journal Square Transportation Center (JSTC), one of New Jersey’s busiest transportation hubs, is centered on the Journal Square station of the PATH rapid transit system and features a 10-story tower, retail plaza, bus terminal, and a two-level parking facility. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is undertaking a project to repair or replace the paver system, stairs, and retaining walls at the JSTC plaza, to eliminate sources of water infiltration to the PATH concourse level below.
EnTech provided civil design and traffic engineering services for the Stage 1 design phase. The firm’s civil engineers assessed existing conditions of the plaza sidewalks and adjacent roadways and developed conceptual designs for sidewalk reconstruction, roadway paving, pedestrian ramp upgrades, and site grading.
EnTech’s traffic engineers collected pedestrian data in the field, performed a pedestrian circulation study of the plaza at critical access points, and conducted pedestrian analyses focused on stairs and pedestrian ramps. EnTech additionally performed a vehicular curbside frontage study.
