To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase sustainability, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is demolishing the existing 91,000-sf Jamaica Bus Depot and replacing it with a 134,000-sf depot dedicated to zero-emission buses (ZEBs). The LEED-certified facility will be capable of operating, maintaining, and storing 272 battery-powered buses, marking a major step in the MTA’s ongoing conversion to a fully electric bus fleet.
EnTech is providing project management, quality management, environmental, and geotechnical services for this major design-build project, as a member of the project management consultant (PMC) team. The firm coordinates day-to-day operations; liaises with office, field, and design-build staff to achieve on-time and on-budget performance; and communicates with architects, engineers, inspectors, and MTA stakeholders to resolve construction issues.
EnTech’s quality management team reviews design-builder submittals pertaining to the project’s quality management program and conducts walkthroughs to verify compliance with approved specifications.
During earlier stages, EnTech supported environmental compliance by reviewing the design-builder’s environmental plans—including the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and hazardous materials and waste plans—pursuant to applicable regulations and client standards. The firm’s geotechnical engineers reviewed geotechnical monitoring plans, including vibration, optical, sediment, and noise monitoring plans.
