MTA Construction & Development (MTA C&D) oversees an expansive portfolio of construction, repair, and renovation projects to maintain the New York City Transit (NYCT) subway and bus networks, enabling efficient travel through the five boroughs for millions of riders. EnTech’s environmental engineering team is providing crucial support for more than 60 projects throughout the NYCT system, as the prime consultant for asbestos-containing material (ACM) and lead-based paint (LBP) investigation, abatement design, and remediation monitoring.

Projects include vertical transportation improvements, electrical and security system improvements, and resiliency upgrades, with EnTech’s specific tasks varying by project. For projects requiring ACM and LBP inspection, the team conducts asbestos and lead surveys, as well as sampling at subway stations, track segments, substations, rail yards, bus depots, maintenance shops, elevated structures, and manholes. EnTech’s investigation reports include abatement designs for the removal or remediation of identified hazardous materials.

During construction, EnTech monitors activities that disrupt hazardous materials abatement efforts, in addition to the storage and removal of hazardous waste. EnTech verifies contractor compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Many of the project sites are dynamic environments that operate 24/7, and EnTech carefully plans on-site activities to maintain safety and to minimize disturbance to facility operations.
