Carrying approximately 200,000 vehicles daily, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is the only roadway connection between Staten Island and the rest of New York City. The bridge is anchored by two 693-foot monumental towers, whose above-roadway portions have not been blast cleaned since the bridge’s 1960s construction. With this design-build project, the towers are undergoing extensive cleaning and protective coating, together with electrical and lighting improvements.
EnTech is the prime project management consultant (PMC) responsible for coordinating construction activities, managing community outreach, and representing the interests of the MTA on-site. The firm’s inspection team is conducting day-to-day oversight of the design-builder’s work, monitoring work for quality, safety, and conformance to contract documents and specifications. EnTech closely coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard to expedite barge permits, which successfully advanced the project schedule.
