Painting and Protecting Bridges Across the Hudson Valley

Services: CI for Bridge Painting in Columbia, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, and Westchester Counties
Location: Various Locations, NY
Owner: New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT)
Construction Cost: $8.5M

EnTech’s transportation CM staff is overseeing an important project to clean and paint deteriorating surfaces on 15 steel roadway bridges across six counties in the Hudson Valley region. The project will protect the bridges against corroding effects of the environment, acid rain, and deicing agents. The project also involves abatement of asbestos-containing material, lead-based paint, and lead-containing concrete coating.

The most visible part of the project will be the repainting of the beautiful Croton Reservoir Bridge, also known as the AMVETS Memorial Bridge, a suspended arch bridge that carries the Taconic State Parkway over the New Croton Reservoir. “With an elevation of 155 feet above water level, we’re all doing our part to review each submission with the utmost scrutiny, to ensure contractors and members of our inspection teams remain safe during each shift,” says office engineer Jennifer Scoon.

The project is currently in the preconstruction approval stage. EnTech’s team is researching each bridge’s unique structural characteristics, to ensure the contractor has thoroughly addressed safety and health-related concerns in their quality control plans.

The project is only just getting underway, but it’s already been a rewarding one for the EnTech team. “It’s always an adventure when you’re able to get together with a new group of people and not only get to learn from one another’s past projects and life experiences but also share your own tidbits of wisdom,” Scoon says.
